The origin and meaning of the name Sidaway is not known. The name is even rarer than Hingley, with only 119 male Sid(d)aways in the whole of the UK in 1851. Of these only three were born outside the Black Country. The concentration in such a small area indicates that the name had its origins on the Worcestershire-Staffordshire border.
